Poly(ethylene imine) (PEI)
CAS Number: 9002-98-6
Linear PEI is a cationic crystalline polymer that has great potential versatility. In recent years it has been used extensively in gene transfection research. PEI can be solution cast into thin films that have reactive surfaces. Such films have gained interest because of their many potential applications. Target molecules can be attached to them using a wide range of methods. Linear polyethylenimines (PEIs) contain all secondary amines, in contrast to branched PEIs which contain primary, secondary and tertiary amino groups. The linear PEIs are solids at room te mperature whereas branched PEIs are liquids at all molecular weights.
Oxazogen manufactures and sells low to medium molecular weight linear PEIs for research purposes.
Soluble in hot water, cold water at low pH, methanol, ethanol, and chloroform.
Insoluble in bezene, ethyl ether, acetone, and cold water.

Polyhedral Oligosilsesquioxane (POSS) Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) Sensor Materials
In order for array-based gravimetric chemical vapor sensors such as SAW sensors to collect the most chemical information, each element in the array must be coated with a different material. The collection of coatings must cover the full range of solubility interactions (dispersion, dipole-dipole and hydrogen-bonding), and needs to include non-polar, polarizable, dipolar, hydrogen-bond basic and hydrogen-bond acidic coatings.
Most materials exhibiting these types of interactions are commercially available, except for hydrogen-bond acidic materials which are essential for the detection of hydrogen-bond basic entities such as nerve agents and explosives. Normally, linear polymers carrying phenol or fluorinated aliphatic alcohol groups are used in hydrogen-bond acidic SAW coatings, but good sensor polymers do not necessarily make robust coatings.
In this lin e of products, hydrogen-bond acidic sensor groups have been placed on polyhedral oligosilsesquioxane nanofillers which can be formulated into a carrier polymer to give a reinforced SAW sensor coating. It has been shown that SAW sensors coated with sensor nanofiller formulations maintain better performance over time than SAW sensors coated with conventional linear polymers.
NOTE: Oxazogen manufactures and sells polyhedral oligosilsesquioxane SAW sensor materials for research and commercial development purposes. All products are patent-protected by Michigan Molecular Institute.
